William Van Zanten – Don't Bunch Up. One Marine's Story (Presidio Press, 2005) - 40 lei

Cartea este in limba Engleza. Stare excelenta, nu a fost citita.

288 pagini

Captain William Van Zanten was one of the "Magnificent Bastards" of the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, in 1966–a year when any day could bring death or dismemberment from a Bouncing Betty or a punji stake, a firefight or a sniper bullet. He and his men faced B-52-sized mosquitoes, rain, heat, disease, and a determined and elusive enemy who kept the Marines off-balance, edgy, and sleepless.

Yet Van Zanten persevered with a soldierly professionalism built on rigorous training. Dedication and boot camp forged the volunteer Marines of the early war years, so when the stakes went through the roof in Vietnam, commitment of man to man and man to unit was total. They supported each other with a soldier's intimacy and endured with a soldier's humor–and together that meant survival.

Al Sever – Xin Loi, Viet Nam. Thirty-One Months of War: A Soldier's Memoir (Presidio Press, 2005) - 40 lei

Cartea este in limba Engleza. Stare excelenta, nu a fost citita.

336 pagini

No one in Vietnam had to tell door gunner and gunship crew chief Al Sever that the odds didn't look good. He volunteered for the job well aware that hanging out of slow-moving choppers over hot LZs blazing with enemy fire was not conducive to a long life. But that wasn't going to stop Specialist Sever.

From Da Nang to Cu Chi and the Mekong Delta, Sever spent thirty-one months in Vietnam, fighting in eleven of the war's sixteen campaigns. Every morning when his gunship lifted off, often to the clacking and muzzle flashes of AK-47s hidden in the dawn fog, Sever knew he might not return. This raw, gritty, gut-wrenching firsthand account of American boys fighting and dying in Vietnam captures all the hell, horror, and heroism of that tragic war.

Ronald E. Winter – Masters of the Art. A fighting Marine's Memoir of Vietnam (Presidio Press, 2005) - 40 lei

Cartea este in limba Engleza. Stare excelenta, nu a fost citita.

No punches are pulled in this gripping account of Vietnam combat through the eyes of a highly decorated Marine helicopter crewman and door gunner with more than three hundred missions under his belt.

In 1968, U.S. Marine Ronald Winter flew some of the toughest missions of the Vietnam War, from the DMZ grasslands to the jungles near Laos and the deadly A Shau Valley, where the NVA ruled. Whether landing in the midst of hidden enemy troops or rescuing the wounded during blazing firefights, the work of helicopter crews was always dangerous. But the men in the choppers never complained; they knew they had it easy compared to their brothers on the ground.

Masters of the Art is a bare-knuckles tribute to the Marines who served in Vietnam. It's about courage, sacrifice, and unsung heroes. The men who fought alongside Winter in that jungle hell were U.S. Marines, warriors who did their job and remained true to their country, no matter the cost.

About the Author

Ronald E. Winter grew up in the farming country of upstate New York. He gave up an academic scholarship at SUNY Albany in 1966 to join the Marines and fight in Vietnam. There he served as a crewman and helicopter machine gunner, flying three hundred missions and receiving many decorations, including fifteen Air Medals, Combat Aircrew Wings, and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. After Vietnam he returned to his studies and earned undergraduate degrees in Electrical Engineering and English Literature. In a two-decade journalism career, Winter received several prestigious awards and a Pulitzer nomination. A fierce advocate of veterans' rights, he currently works as a writer specializing in media relations.

Mark W. Woodruff – Unheralded Victory. The Defeat of the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army 1961-1973 (Presidio Press, 2005) - 30 lei

Cartea este in Limba Engleza. Stare foarte buna, semne minime de uzura. Citita probabil o data sau de doua ori.

416 pagini

Along with a half million other young men, Mark Woodruff put his life on the line to serve his country in Vietnam. Like so many others, he returned home to find himself regarded not as a hero but as a humiliating reminder of the only war the United States ever lost. This Marine, however, is determined to set the record straight. Woodruff never wavers from the cold, hard facts in this riveting book. Battle by battle, Unheralded Victory provides incontrovertible proof that the United States won this war, from the vaunted 1968 Tet Offensive–in reality a shattering defeat that decimated the Viet Cong–to Linebacker II, the final knockout blow that forced North Vietnam to the table. Make no mistake: our warriors in Vietnam were victorious. It's time America sat up and took notice.

Tom Mangold, John Penycate – The Tunnels of Cu Chi. A Harrowing Account of America's "Tunnel Rats" in the Underground Battlefields of Vietnam (Presidio Press, 2005) - 30 lei
Cartea este in Limba Engleza. Stare foarte buna, semne minime de uzura. Citita probabil o data sau de doua ori.

336 pagini

At the height of the Vietnam conflict, a complex system of secret underground tunnels sprawled from Cu Chi Province to the edge of Saigon. In these burrows, the Viet Cong cached their weapons, tended their wounded, and prepared to strike. They had only one enemy: U.S. soldiers small and wiry enough to maneuver through the guerrillas' narrow domain.

The brave souls who descended into these hellholes were known as "tunnel rats." Armed with only pistols and K-bar knives, these men inched their way through the steamy darkness where any number of horrors could be awaiting them–bullets, booby traps, a tossed grenade. Using firsthand accounts from men and women on both sides who fought and killed in these underground battles, authors Tom Mangold and John Penycate provide a gripping inside look at this fearsome combat. The Tunnels of Cu Chi is a war classic of unbearable tension and unforgettable heroes.

Praise for The Tunnels of Cu Chi

"A claustrophobic but fascinating tale."The Wall Street Journal

"Chilling . . . what war really was and how it was fought."The New York Times

"Gripping . . . highly recommended."The Philadelphia Inquirer

"Remarkable."The Washington Post

Bill Goshen – War Paint. The 1st Infantry Division's LRP/Ranger Company in Fierce Combat in Vietnam (Presidio Press, 2001) - 35 lei

Cartea este in Limba Engleza. Stare excelenta, semne minime de uzura. Citita probabil o singura data.

272 pagini.

The men who served with in the 1st Infantry Division with F company, 52nd Infantry, (LRP) later redesignated as Company I, 75th Infantry (Ranger) --engaged in some of the fiercest, bloodiest fighting during the Vietnam War, suffering a greater relative aggregate of casualties that any other LRRP/LRP/ Ranger company. Their base was Lai Khe, within hailing distance of the Vietcong central headquarters, a mile inside Cambodia, with its vast stockpiles of weapons and thousands of transient VC and NVA soldiers.

Recondo-qualified Bill Goshen was there, and has written the first account of these battle-hardened soldiers. As the eyes and ears of the Big Red One, the 1st Infantry, these hunter/killer teams of only six men instered deep inside enemy territory had to survive by their wits, or suffer the deadly consequences. Goshen himself barely escaped with his life in a virtual suicide mission that destroyed half his team.

His gripping narrative recaptures the raw courage and sacrifice of American soldiers fighting a savage war of survival: men of all colors, from all walks of life, warriors bonded by triumph and tragedy, by life and death. They served proudly in Vietnam, and their stories need to be told.
